I'm thinking of doing a Kiriban for my hitting 3,000 pageviews. Should I wait? I'm not really sure what to do here, I just know I want to do a Kiriban and I have a general idea of what to do for the picture(This is gonna be a loooooong project!).

Okay I wasn't originally going to post this here...but a friend of mine said it was too awesome not to?

Please bear in mind that I am addressing these issues in terms of the RABID fans, not the sane fans who read it at face value and were yey or nay, or even on the fence. Those are the fans I like and we have no problems getting along.

Another note, this will not be deconstructing the book series. Enough people have done that. No, what I'm here to talk about is the fans, and the three main things I think they need to hear. Without further ado, please enjoy what I've written here, and comments are welcome. Flames from rabighters will be used to make s'mores. Yes that includes insults to my (what I'm guessing will be) "ugly" appearance that you, little rabighter, have no idea as to what it looks like. Because I know they'll be here somewhere.



1) Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good.

Yes, the Twilight Series (not Saga, Series) sold very well, however, that's just because there were millions of horny people dumb enough to pay $20 or even $30 for said series. Just because it made all that money in the first month or so of sales, doesn't automatically stamp a "Good Book" label on it. Not by a LONG SHOT. In my opinion, in terms of SMeyer's "thesaurus rape", if you're going to use a word, don't be afraid to use it again. If you have to use it 20 times, but those 20 times will get your point across much better than 20 different words that mean the same thing, then use the word 20 times. It's not a crime to be a little repetitive in your writing, it happens all the time in Psychology, and many more times in other great works. So this statement really has a couple of meanings: "Good" as in a good story, and "good" as in well written. I've read high school short stories written MUCH better than Twilight could begin to hope it could be.

2) Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

This one gets me the most in terms of the fandom. When it comes to opinions, I've noticed that a lot of you Twilighters happen to get rather...well violent, when someone openly claims to not like the series.

So what?

Just the same as in politics and in philosophy, everyone is allowed to have their own opinion. That being said, that doesn't mean that just because a person doesn't like the series that they are a lesbian, a Nazi, ugly, or doesn't know what true love is. All of these sound ridiculous when compiled, right? Then hopefully you won't be too shocked to find out that they have actually been said. I have heard them myself: of people being called lesbians for not finding a character (only described in words might I add) attractive. I have heard people being accused of not knowing what true love is because they don't find Edward romantic. When it comes to romance in this series, I don't think it's romantic at all. If my boyfriend took the engine out of my car just so I wouldn't leave, I would be getting concerned, not lovey dovey. It brings me to another point I noticed about the series: Bella only loves Edward at face value. Literally. All she ever talks about is his gorgeous, sparkling, luminescent skin (which could've been described in one line instead of mentioned on 500 other pages); or his other various PHYSICAL features.

I thought love was about accepting a person for all their various personality traits? Sure, the physical aspect of a person plays a huge part in the initial attraction, I'm not about to deny that; however, shouldn't a relationship be based on more than just sex and what a person looks like? But I guess my opinion is invalid since I apparently just don't know what true love is.

3) Just because someone doesn't like the same things as you, doesn't mean you can get violent.

This is what is giving the Twilight fandom such a bad name, and even attracting more people to dislike the series: the fans. And I don't mean all fans, just the ones who decide to beat others up in a book store, whack them over the head with a textbook, or even douse acid on a person's face for telling them to put down the book because their chemistry assignment was a little more important (of course I've left out a number of details in terms of the acid story, but I assure you it's just as ridiculous as it sounds).

The thing that strikes me the most about this particular fandom is that you don't hear crap like this when it comes to Harry Potter. I realize that Harry Potter is the biggest comparison and people are probably getting sick of hearing about it too, but for the sake of this debate the series is the best I can possibly use to back up my opinion. Now, the most you'll hear about HP fans is that they are constantly being called Anti-Christian. I myself was called a Satanist by an anonymous user on the internet for liking the series. But I didn't fly off a handle and start threatening them. I don't think I even replied to their comment, for the sake of not starting a pointless internet brawl over a book. And that's really what it comes down to: Twilight, just like Harry Potter, is a BOOK. Just a hard (or soft) cover filled with 500 or so pages of black ink that form letters and thus words, etc. Why don't more people realize this? There are accounts of people getting so offended by a "hater" as we are dubbed, that the Twilighter flies off the handle and becomes violent! Why? What's the need in trying to beat "sense" into a person for not liking it? That's only going to drive them to HATE it (not to mention a restraining order).

It just boggles my mind at the amount of people who take this book so seriously. It's not fact, it's fiction. The book is just a bunch of words and thoughts dreamed up by one woman who decided she wanted to write about said dream. Bella isn't real, Edward certainly isn't real, and yet people are still taking this series as though it were the most epic and romantic relationship in history, not to mention as if it were factual. I'd love to know, from Twilight fans this time, why you think people are taking it so seriously. Is it because of their own lack of love in their lives? Is it because they're a sucker for romance? Or are they simply so naïve that they can't distinguish between fiction and reality? Answers are welcome.


In conclusion, all I really have to say is that the fanbase needs to calm down and take a couple steps back. You need to really look at what your fanbase is doing to your series: it's turning into a cult. The fact that you feel the need to take into your own hands whether or not someone likes the series is just wrong. Seriously guys, it's just a book series. It's not history or philosophy, which is supposed to get you riled up, and it's certainly not something that should be taken so seriously. I think there is one thing I should've given its own space...and I think I'll make it my final, parting comment: YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO MARRY EDWARD CULLEN OR JACOB BLACK. THEY DO NOT EXIST. Silly rabighters.

EDIT: SO~ I've managed to land Zane as a Tag Force partner? Kept giving him sammiches and making nice to him. Then one day I'm talking to him and he randomly asks me to be his partner. I had a spazzgasm.

SO! This morning I was watching YuGiOh. The 4Kids dub. And I got mad. I was watching the episode where Joey was nearly killed by Marik, and got so pissed at the amount of changes they had made to the episode. And then I went back and looked up some more 4Kids f*ck ups. Didn't help my mood.

ANYWAY. I was sitting there steaming, so I watched YGO: TAS a little and got some gooood laughs. Then I remembered the invisible guns. I had such a brainwave and made up a group instantly called FAIG: Fans Against Invisble Guns. (general anti 4Kids/censorship club). It was originally called FAG, but I needed the invisible part in there. So it is called F.A.I.G.

Yeah, I've had an interesting morning, and yes I did JUST make it up today. lol. I'm still amazed I came up with it. Still thinking about making Facebook and dA group/clubs for it...just because I am that proud of it.


Also on a random note, is it bad that I'm totally not worried about the sudden spurts of pouring rain, crashing thunder and wind outside my house right now? I suspect ill-weather a-foot. =_=
